Department of Pharmaceutical chemistry

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is one of the core departments involved in teaching and research related to drug development and discovery. Pharmaceutical chemistry, a fusion of basic chemistry and life sciences, is a multidisciplinary field concerned with the principles and applications of natural, synthetic, computational, and analytical chemistry in the discovery of chemical therapeutics to prevent and cure life-threatening diseases. The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry provides all students with learning experiences based on best teaching practices in a variety of chemical subjects, including organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, drug design, and pharmaceutical analytical chemistry. In addition, students receive hands-on training in the use of various analytical instruments such as UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FT-IR, flame photometer, HPLC, HPTLC.

Department of Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology is concerned with the study of the interaction of drugs with the body, the evaluation of their efficacy and safety, and the development of drugs and therapeutic decisions. It studies the mechanisms of drug action, pharmacokinetics, drug safety, and personalized medicine. The department plays a crucial role in understanding the effects of drugs, optimizing drug therapies and ensuring rational use of pharmaceutical treatments.
Research and teaching in the Department of Pharmacology focus on how drugs work: from their action at the molecular level to their effects on the human body. The Department of Pharmacology thrives on its experienced faculty who are dedicated to research and results-oriented teaching. The department is well known for its research activities, infrastructure and well maintained CPCSEA approved animal house. The main objective of the department is to produce qualified graduates who will meet the healthcare needs of the society and serve the pharmaceutical sectors by providing well-trained professionals.

Department of Pharmacognosy

The Pharmacognosy Department specializes in the study of medicinal plants and natural products. It deals with the identification, isolation and evaluation of bioactive compounds from these sources. Pharmacognosy is probably the oldest of the modern sciences concerned with the study of the physical, chemical, biochemical, and biological properties of natural drugs, including the search for new drugs from natural sources. The subject is one of the core subjects in the pharmacy curriculum. Studies in this field usually focus on the traditional uses of plants and on drugs derived from plants. Pharmacognosists contribute to the development of herbal medicines, phytochemical analysis, pharmacological screening, quality control, and the study of traditional medicinal practices. Their work aims to discover and exploit the therapeutic potential of natural sources for the development of new drugs and herbal medicines.
